An editable layout needs its supporting assets. When handing over work created in InDesign 2025, use a deliberate packaging process and verify the delivered folder.
Prepare the document first
Adobe’s packaging guidance describes gathering the InDesign file, linked graphics, fonts and a report into a folder. It recommends resolving preflight problems before packaging. Collecting unresolved files does not make the underlying layout complete.
Confirm which revision is being handed over and whether the recipient needs editable source, a final PDF or both. Name the package so that it cannot easily be confused with an earlier issue.
Review the package
- Save the intended source revision.
- Check preflight results and resolve missing or outdated assets.
- Use the Package workflow and review its included items.
- Check font permissions and any limitations on redistribution.
- Open a copy from the packaged location and inspect representative pages.
Add a concise project note
Identify the main layout file, the application version, the final PDF and any assets that require separate access. Mention unresolved limitations clearly. A recipient should not have to infer which of several similar files is authoritative.
For example, a linked image may exist in both a working folder and an approved assets folder. Check that the package contains the approved version, then inspect its crop and placement in the exported PDF.
Retain the package that was actually issued. If the working document changes later, that retained copy provides a reliable reference for questions about the earlier handover. A packaging tool helps collect dependencies; the final responsibility is to verify that the collection matches the intended delivery.
