An SVG export should be checked in the place it will be used. When preparing web artwork in Illustrator 2025, agree the intended dimensions, background and delivery requirements before exporting.
Keep the source and export distinct
Adobe’s SVG guidance recommends retaining the original Illustrator document for future edits and exporting again when changes are needed. It also explains that artboard selection affects the exported bounds.
Decide whether you need the whole artboard or a particular component. An unintended object outside the main design can create unexpected empty space if the export follows the combined artwork bounds.
Inspect a sample export
- Confirm the intended artboard or selected artwork.
- Review SVG options appropriate to the destination, including text handling.
- Export a clearly named sample.
- Open it in the intended browser or application.
- Check spacing, clipping, transparency and legibility at the final display size.
Discuss text and accessibility with the recipient
A developer may need an icon, a decorative illustration or a meaningful image with an accessible description. Those uses can require different implementation choices. Explain what the artwork communicates rather than assuming the file format answers that question.
For a logo-sized graphic, inspect both a normal display size and a smaller header size. Very fine details can become ineffective even when the SVG remains technically scalable.
Keep the export settings and final file with the project notes. If an issue appears after integration, compare the actual delivered file with the approved sample before changing the source artwork. That helps separate an export problem from a layout or styling problem.
